Young Adult Wednesday

So I decided a would do a weekly feature of YA novels on Wednesdays. Last week I took a look at Kelley Armstrongs The Darkest Powers. This week I read Lauren Kate's Fallen series.

Fallen - There's something achingly familiar about Daniel Grigori. Mysterious and aloof, he captures Luce Price's attention from the moment she sees him on her first day at Sword & Cross boarding school in Savannah. He's the one bright spot in place where cell phones are forbidden, the other students are screwups, and security cameras watch every move. Except Daniel wants nothing to do with Luce-he goes out of his way to make that very clear. But she can't let it go. Drawn to him like a moth to a flame, Luce has to find out what Daniel is so desperate to keep secret...even if it kills her.

Torment - Hell on earth. That's what it's like for Luce to be apart from her fallen angel boyfriend, Daniel. It took them an eternity to find one another, but now he has told her he must go away. Just long enough to hunt down the Outcasts-immortals who want to kill Luce. Daniel hides Luce at Shoreline, a school on the rocky California coast with unusually gifted students:  Nephilim, the offspring of fallen angels and humans. At Shoreline, Luce learns what the Shadows are, and how she can use them as windows to her previous lives. Yet the more Luce learns, the more she suspects that Daniel hasn't told her everything. He's hiding something-something dangerous. What if Daniel's version of the past isn't actually true? What if Luce is really meant to be with someone else?

Passion - Luce would die for Daniel. And she has. Over and over again. Throughout time, Luce and Daniel have found each other, only to be painfully torn apart:  Luce dead, Daniel left broken and alone. But perhaps it doesn't need to be that way... Luce is certain that something-or someone-in a past life can help her in her present one. So she begins the most important journey of this lifetime...going back eternities to witness firsthand her romances with Daniel...and finally unlock the key to making their love last. Cam and the legions of angels and Outcasts are desperate to catch Luce, but none are as frantic as Daniel. He chases Luce through their shared pasts, terrified of what might happen if she rewrites history. Because their romance for the ages could go up in flames...forever.

This is a wonder series about love that lasts throughout time. In Fallen, Luce has landed at Sword & Cross, a school for trouble youths. She is drawn to two boys, one good one evil. Daniel tries his hardest to rebuff her, but ultimately he can't change fate. Cam is doing his best to lure her away from Daniel, but he can't change fate either.

In Torment things are different in this lifetime. Luce didn't burst into flames with the realization of who and what Daniel is. A truce is struck between Daniel and Cam, they must protect Luce at all costs. Luce is taken to Shoreline, a very pretty school in California. Here Luce meets more angles and the Nephilim. Shelby and Miles are two Nephilim that Luce befriends are pulled into helping Luce figure out why she is different and has power over the Shadows. The only thing that got under my skin about this story was Daniel not telling Luce what she needed to know. If he had just explained a few things then she wouldn't have kept getting into trouble or getting the people around her hurt. So frustrating!

In Passion Luce is trying to learn about her past lives from the only way she can, traveling to them. This is cool. I love time travel and this is a neat way to do it. Luce learns some pretty interesting things about herself and her love for Daniel. She gains a new traveling companion, Bill, who you can't quiet tell what is motives are.

Lauren Kate out does herself with each new book. Rapture is the final book in the series and will be released Spring of 2012. I am really looking forward to how everything ends. Will Daniel and Luce be able to stay together? Will Satan achieve his goal? The wait is going to be agony! Aren't these covers just breath taking?
