Young Adult Wednesday

So I decided a would do a weekly feature of YA novels on Wednesdays. Last week I took a look at Kelley Armstrongs The Darkest Powers. This week I read Lauren Kate's Fallen series.

Fallen - There's something achingly familiar about Daniel Grigori. Mysterious and aloof, he captures Luce Price's attention from the moment she sees him on her first day at Sword & Cross boarding school in Savannah. He's the one bright spot in place where cell phones are forbidden, the other students are screwups, and security cameras watch every move. Except Daniel wants nothing to do with Luce-he goes out of his way to make that very clear. But she can't let it go. Drawn to him like a moth to a flame, Luce has to find out what Daniel is so desperate to keep secret...even if it kills her.

Torment - Hell on earth. That's what it's like for Luce to be apart from her fallen angel boyfriend, Daniel. It took them an eternity to find one another, but now he has told her he must go away. Just long enough to hunt down the Outcasts-immortals who want to kill Luce. Daniel hides Luce at Shoreline, a school on the rocky California coast with unusually gifted students:  Nephilim, the offspring of fallen angels and humans. At Shoreline, Luce learns what the Shadows are, and how she can use them as windows to her previous lives. Yet the more Luce learns, the more she suspects that Daniel hasn't told her everything. He's hiding something-something dangerous. What if Daniel's version of the past isn't actually true? What if Luce is really meant to be with someone else?

Passion - Luce would die for Daniel. And she has. Over and over again. Throughout time, Luce and Daniel have found each other, only to be painfully torn apart:  Luce dead, Daniel left broken and alone. But perhaps it doesn't need to be that way... Luce is certain that something-or someone-in a past life can help her in her present one. So she begins the most important journey of this lifetime...going back eternities to witness firsthand her romances with Daniel...and finally unlock the key to making their love last. Cam and the legions of angels and Outcasts are desperate to catch Luce, but none are as frantic as Daniel. He chases Luce through their shared pasts, terrified of what might happen if she rewrites history. Because their romance for the ages could go up in flames...forever.

This is a wonder series about love that lasts throughout time. In Fallen, Luce has landed at Sword & Cross, a school for trouble youths. She is drawn to two boys, one good one evil. Daniel tries his hardest to rebuff her, but ultimately he can't change fate. Cam is doing his best to lure her away from Daniel, but he can't change fate either.

In Torment things are different in this lifetime. Luce didn't burst into flames with the realization of who and what Daniel is. A truce is struck between Daniel and Cam, they must protect Luce at all costs. Luce is taken to Shoreline, a very pretty school in California. Here Luce meets more angles and the Nephilim. Shelby and Miles are two Nephilim that Luce befriends are pulled into helping Luce figure out why she is different and has power over the Shadows. The only thing that got under my skin about this story was Daniel not telling Luce what she needed to know. If he had just explained a few things then she wouldn't have kept getting into trouble or getting the people around her hurt. So frustrating!

In Passion Luce is trying to learn about her past lives from the only way she can, traveling to them. This is cool. I love time travel and this is a neat way to do it. Luce learns some pretty interesting things about herself and her love for Daniel. She gains a new traveling companion, Bill, who you can't quiet tell what is motives are.

Lauren Kate out does herself with each new book. Rapture is the final book in the series and will be released Spring of 2012. I am really looking forward to how everything ends. Will Daniel and Luce be able to stay together? Will Satan achieve his goal? The wait is going to be agony! Aren't these covers just breath taking?

The Darkest Powers by Kelley Armstrong

The Summoning - Chloe Saunders used to have a pretty normal life. But that changed on the day she met her first ghost. Locked up in Lyle House, a group home for troubled teens, she finds out that there's more to the home's teen residents than meets the eye. Will Chloe be able to uncover the dangerous secrets of Lyle House...or will its skeletons come back to haunt her?

The story is told from Chloe's point of view, so as the reader you get to go on the same self discovery journy that she does. When Chloe is sent to Lyle House she meets a wonderful band of misfits, each with their own unique story and troubles. Derek, the over protective dark and misterious boy, along with his brother Simon, the cute artists everyone should fall in love with, are the only ones with a clue as to what is going on. Then there is Rae, the girl from the wrong side of the tracks, Tori, the daughter of one of the Lyle House administrators, and Liz, the girl who is afraid she has a poltergist. Put them all together and you have the cast of a wonderful and amazing story.

The Summoning

The Awakening - If you had met me a few weeks ago, you probably would have descried me as an average teenage girl-someone normal. Now my life has changed forever and I'm as far away from normal as it gets. A living science experiment-not only can I see ghosts, but I ws genetically altered by a sinister orgaization called the Edison Group. What does that mean? For starters, I'm a teenage necromancer whose powers are out of control; I raise the dead without even trying. Trust me, that is not a power you want to have. Ever. Now I'm running for my life with three of my supernatural friends-a charming sorcerer, a cynical werewolf, and a disgruntled witch-and we have to find someone who can help us before the Edison Group finds us first. Or die trying.

In the first book Derek, Simon, Chloe, and Rae manage to escape, but it isn't long before Chloe and Rae are back in the hands of the Edison Group. It isn't long before Chloe escapes yet again, only this time to be accompanied by Tori. After they meet up with Derek and Simon they embark on a journey to find Derek and Simon's dad. All kinds of hijinks ensue. This second books takes you on an amazing ride, trying to deal with all their powers emerging. How will the series conclude?

The Awakening

The Reckoning - My name is Chloe Saunders. I'm fifteen, and I would love to be normal. But normal is one thing I'm not. For one thing, I'm having these feelings for a certain antisocial werewolf and his sweet-tempered brother-who just happens to be a sorcerer-but, between you and me, I'm leaning toward the werewolf. Not normal. My friends and I are also on the run from an evil corporation that wants to get rid of us-permanently. Definitely not normal. And finally, I'm a genetically altered necromancer who can raise the dead, rotting corpses and all, without even trying. As far away from normal as it gets.

This book concludes the story of Chloe and her marry band of misfits. I won't go too much into it because I don't want to give anything away. Let me just say that if you haven't picked these books up yet, there is no hope for you. Kelley Armstrong is a masterful story teller.

The Hunt Book Blog Tour

Synopsis of The Hunt
A ragged band of vampires are cutting a bloody band of destruction from Alaska to Washington State! As frost turns the leaves gold and paints the high mountain treetops silver,  hundreds of hunters arrive in Swan Valley for their annual deer hunt. What they don't know is an outcast band of vampires have arrived as well.

Raphael Goldhawk, king of the high vampire council, has decreed the taking of human life unlawful. Raul Stannard, an ancient enemy of the half-human king, is determined to overthrow the council, even if it means the exposure and eventual annihilation of the vampire race.

Four people, a Ferry County forest ranger (Roger Atley), an Indian spirit-walker (Harley Truefeather), and a young married couple (Brian and Holly Jensen), are about to be caught up in an ancient power struggle, and in a love affair as old as time itself.

This novel combines ancient history with modern times, in an epic show-down between good and evil, love and hate. Grab your camping gear and hold on tight! It's time for The Hunt!
